Update Ugene in Ubuntu12.04/13.04 (Read 11970 times)

Hi,

Could you please tell me how can I update Ugene in Ubuntu? I am using the version1.9.8 which is almost an year old. I was under the impression the its being constantly updates from - iefremov/ppa/ubuntu quantal but it is not.

AK, the new version of UGENE 1.12.1 has been built for Ubuntu quantal and uploaded to the repository two days ago (2013-08-06). Could you try to update UGENE again, please?

Hi,

I am having issue with the latest Ugene installed from repository. The problem is that it is very slow. Even to open a file the navigation across directory takes a lot of time. Could you please help?

Hello, AK.

We have created the issue for this problem in our bug-tracker:
https://ugene.unipro.ru/tracker/browse/UGENE-1940

We will try to investigate and fix the problem of this slowness, and the solution will be available in the upcoming UGENE 1.12.2 release.

But there are two temporary solutions.

The first one is to switch the style of UGENE graphic interface.
1) Click the menu Settings -> Preferences.
2) In the first tab "General" find the combo box "Appearance".
3) Choose the "Cleanlook" item instead of "GTK+".

The second temporary solution is to download and use the portable version of UGENE from our site (but not from Ubuntu repository):

As I can see, this version does not have the problem with open file dialogs.

Could you try it, please, and tell us the result?

AK,
We have found that the origins of the problem are in one of plugins: browser_support.plugin. Switch off this plugin to make file dialogs faster.
1) Click the menu Settings -> Plugins.
2) Find the plugin "BrowserSupport".
3) Right click on it -> Remove plugin.
4) Restart UGENE.

Thank you so much for the found and reported problem! It helps to make UGENE better.

The next version of UGENE will have no problems with the plugin.

Many thanks. Your suggestion fixed the problem.

Please make sure to include a check for this plugin in the next version becasue people following this thread will have this removed. Therefore it need to be installed in the fixed verison.
