Title: Saving annotations to the sequnce file?
Post by Alexey Zaytsev on Jan 1st, 2014 at 11:33pm
Hi.

Is there a way to save the annotations to the gb file containing the sequence? It seems that if I try annotating a clear sequence, a new annotation file has to be created, and I have to merge them manually using a text editor. Not too hard, but is there a better way?

Hello, Alexey!

Yes, there is a way. Please, try the right button click on the sequence object in the Project View (the left part of UGENE). Export/Import->Export Sequences. In the dialog, select the format that supports annotation (e.g. genbank) and check "Export with annotations" box. The resulting document will contain the sequence and annotations attached.

We do not attach the sequence to the file by default, because some formats, like FASTA, do not support annotations.
